Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor
AASECT Certified Sex Therapist

Alison is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and AASECT Certified Sex Therapist. She received her Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Southern Maine in 2005, and completed inpatient and outpatient internships at Maine Medical Center. Alison has been in private practice at The Couples Center since 2006. In 2013, she became the third AASECT Certified Sex Therapist in Maine. She is a member of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT).

Alison enjoys working with adults to help them become their true self - personally, relationally and professionally.  She believes the best work comes from having an excellent therapeutic relationship with her clients. Alison helps guide her clients to find solutions through their current life situations or transitions. She believes there is hope even in the most difficult circumstances. She works with clients to improve communication, sexual intimacy and desire in their relationships; to inspire and motivate their career paths; and to help heal past grief or trauma that may be inhibiting growth and well-being. She integrates a holistic perspective of health - including a bio, psycho, social, spiritual and sexual model - into her counseling.

Alison has a passion for learning and personal growth, and brings state of the art modalities into her practice. She has received advanced trainings in Hypnotherapy and Attachment Therapy from Daniel Brown, PhD, Relational Life Therapy training from Terry Real of the Relational Life Institute, and current training in Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy. In her couples and sex therapy work, Alison uses teachings from David Schnarch, Gina Ogden and Ester Perel. Her more recent studies are focused on neurobiology and the brain and utilizing mindfulness based therapy techniques.

For clients interested in pursuing existential issues such as, “Who am I? What is my soul-purpose? What is the meaning of this?” and further insight oriented work, Alison loves exploring these issues, sometimes employing her energy based psychotherapy trainings in Matrix Energetics, Attachment Hypnotherapy and Tapas Acupressure Technique (TAT).

Alison has a very positive and optimistic life perspective that she brings to her counseling practice. She is known for her insightfulness, openhearted approach, and ability to bring humor and fun into her work with clients. In her spare time, Alison enjoys yoga, studying consciousness and spirituality and being with family and friends. She has two young adult sons and has been happily married for over twenty-five years.
