Ron is a Maine Licensed Psychologist and a Board Certified Diplomate in Sex Therapy( AASECT) . He received his doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Nebraska in 1969. After completing a post-doctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School, he began his career at the Boston University Counseling Center. He was first certified as a sex therapist by AASECT in 1978. While taking a sabbatical, he studied transpersonal and humanistic psychology at Esalen Institute in Big Sur, CA and completed a 3 month silent retreat at the Insight Meditation Society. Ron began private practice in Portland, ME in 1982 and founded the Couples Center, formerly known as Coastal Counseling Associates.

Ron brings a great wealth of knowledge and experience to his therapy practice. He is very kind, caring and insightful. Over the years he has studied the work and trained with well known, superb mentors and teachers such as David Schnarch, PhD, Terry Real, LCSW, John Wellwood, PhD, and David Deida. His perspective is holistic and comprehensive, encompassing dimensions of body, mind, relationships, and spirit. As well as counseling individuals and couples, Ron serves as Clinical Supervisor to other therapists and counselors. He has taught Continuing Education courses for Sweetser and Planned Parenthood on Sexuality, Relationships, and Couples Counseling.

Ron has continued his spiritual studies over the years and has delved deeply into Eastern and Western paths to Spirit. He currently practices Buddhism, and his work as a therapist is informed by his years of practice and study. When not working Ron enjoys pursuing spiritual studies, being in nature, music, film, and spending time with friends, family, and his three excellent grandchildren.
